September Will Be Busy For The Youth!

T he Night of Joy sign-up period has ended. We are taking a group of 35 youth and chaperones to Orlando, Florida for a time of fun and worship at Disney World. Please play for safe travels and for our hearts to be open to the calling of Christ in our lives. This will be a time of that we seek to grow closer to God and as a group. A participant meeting will take place September 4th at 7:15 in the Epic Café.

Wednesday nights have started back in the Epic Café. The theme for the fall is finding faith in film. Last week we watched a clip from The Avengers. We looked at the gifts and superpowers of each of the heroes. We then discussed how we are all uniquely gifted and have our own powers that we can use to impact the Kingdom of Heaven. This will end each week at 7:15 p.m.

Also during the month of September the youth will share in a time of food and fellowship at the homes of a different church member each Sunday night. We will meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. and return to church at 7:00 p.m. Because of Night of Joy our Sunday night schedule will not start until September 15th.

Dorcus Group Update

Mrs. Jennifer Fussell attended the Dorcas meeting on August 8 to discuss the “clean water” ministry in which she and her husband, local Dr. Kevin Fussell, actively participate in Haiti and The Dominican Republic. After the meeting, she took with her 50 little dresses and 60 ditty bags to distribute in the small villages they serve with their clean water ministry. These items will be sent to Haiti and DR with representatives attending their “clean water” conference and fund-raiser in Atlanta this month. When the Fussell’s return to Haiti in November, they will take with them additional dresses and ditty bags.

Recent donations of Dorcas-made neck pillows, adult bibs, crocheted and fleece throws, and memory pillows taken to Hospice of The Golden Isles were gratefully received by staff, who deliver them to both in-home and Hospice-housed clients.

Ditty bags, to be filled with personal items, for the local Seafarer’s International “Christmas at Sea” program, will become the focus of the group until mid-November. FBC-SSI congregation participated in the filling of the ditty bags last year, and the Dorcas Group invites you to again donate socks, gloves, warm scarves, books, Bibles, personal hygiene items, and non-perishable snacks. The Dorcas Basket will be found at the Fellowship Hall door for your contributions for the men who come to our ports during the holidays. These men are away from home for six months at the time, so a little bag of unexpected Christmas cheer and love can be a really meaningful experience for them. “Walk in their shoes” in your mind for a moment…and be generous.

Youth Wednesday Night Live

This Wednesday night, Youth Wednesday Night Live will be returning to the Epic Café at 6:30 p.m. During this time we will be looking at our faith through the eyes of cinema. We will discuss how we can deepen our walk with Christ and how we can use everyday events to share our faith with our friends. This will end each week at 7:15 p.m.

School has started and we are settling back into the routine of life. During September youth praise band, youth choir and prayer breakfast will start back. I am excited about each of these activities! Details for each of these events will be coming soon. Make sure you check the Lifeline and the youth Facebook page for more details.

Also, during the month of September, the youth will share in a time of food and fellowship at the homes of a different church member each Sunday night. We will meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. and return to church at 7:00 p.m. Because of Night of Joy, our Sunday night schedule will not start until September 15th. This Sunday night we will join the rest of the church for a worship service at the lighthouse. Come ready to worship and eat boiled peanuts and homemade ice cream!

Youth Lunch and Snatch

The Costa Rica youth lunch went exceptionally well this past Sunday. A big thank you to the church for continuing to come and support our youth. Thank you to Glenda Kessler for her guidance and direction in this area. Donnie Jordan did an amazing job with the meal, if the youth ate like that in Costa Rica; I’m buying a ticket tomorrow. Linda Knight gave us a little piece of Costa Rica with her decorating in the Fellowship hall. Many other adults were involved and deserve a thank you, but they are too many to list here.

Welcome to our newest youth group members. This past Saturday morning Allyson Jennings, Peyton Jennings, and Mattie Colquitt were snatched from their beds at 6:00 a.m. and thrown into the pool of Lon and Joy Lewis. We had a great time and look forward to getting to know them as we grow closer as a group and to God.

Come Hear About Costa Rica Missions

This Sunday, the youth of First Baptist St. Simons that went on the Costa Rica mission trip, would like to say thank you to the congregation for their support. After the 10:30 a.m. service there will be a lunch provided for every member of our congregation in the fellowship hall. The cost of this meal is free. While dining, you will be able to hear more about this life changing experience that you helped make possible for our youth. So, make plans to spend time with us as we eat and fellowship together this Sunday.

Youth Summer Activity Blitz was a Blast!

We had a great time of fellowship, fun, and discipleship last week. I would like to thank the chaperones that helped with all of the activities last week. Tuesday, we had a great time participating in the Beach Olympics. On Thursday, we went into our community and found creative ways to show the love of Christ to people that we come into contact with on a daily basis. Saturday, we took a group of 18 people tubing on the Ichetucknee Springs. Then this past Sunday, we had a great time swimming at the home on Lon and Joy Lewis, followed by a time of worship at the Gathering Place. Coming up this Sunday, we have a video game night from 5 to 7pm in the church fellowship hall. Snacks, games, and video game systems will be provided.
