Lent is Coming
On March 9th, we will begin the season of Lent. The Lenten season lasts 40 days and leads us into the Easter season. During this time we are reminded of the story of Jesus being tempted by the devil in the desert for 40 days. We know the devil tempted Jesus three different times in this story. The first temptation is found in Luke 4:3-4.
It says in Luke 4:3-4, “The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread.” Jesus answered him, “It is written, “One does not live by bread alone.”’ The devil wanted Jesus to turn the stones into bread. I like how Jesus made it clear that nothing was wrong with bread but that bread is just simply not enough.
We need certain things in this world to live but to really live we need God in our hearts. God must be our foundation and the center of our lives. Sometimes we may have bad days and feel like we are in a wilderness all alone but we can remember that God is with us…and God is all we really need.
Dear God, Thank you for helping us in the good times and in the bad times. Help us to lean on You as our rock and our foundation, and not the temporary things of this world. It is in Christ name we pray, Amen.
